What is a Tooth Extraction?
At Mill Woods Town Centre Dental Clinic, our dentists perform this procedure when less invasive treatments are insufficient or if retaining the tooth could harm oral health.
Common reasons for extraction include severe tooth damage and issues with wisdom teeth. Extractions may also be necessary to make room for other dental treatments.
Wisdom Tooth Removal
Wisdom teeth are the last set of molars to emerge, typically appearing in the back corners of an adult mouth between the ages of 17 and 25.
Often, this third set of molars is not fully functional and can cause crowding or impact other teeth as they develop. They may also lead to complications with oral hygiene. If these issues arise, your dentist might recommend their removal.
Repairing Excessive Damage
In most cases, your dentist will work to save a tooth whenever possible. However, there are circumstances, such as injury, gum disease, or excessive decay, which require extraction.
If you have a damaged tooth that needs to be extracted, your dentist will discuss tooth replacement options with you, which may include dental bridges, dental crowns, and dentures.
